Resources for these workshops are provided on a PB Works wiki.

 

The wiki is an open site, so availble to anyone.  Only members can edit pages and leave comments.

Participants should have an account with pbworks:

  1. Go to our wiki at www.mssle09.pbworks.com.
  2. Request access to the wiki.  You will have to give your email address.  Your request will be approved and email will be sent back to you.
  3. From your email notification, click on the link to the site.  You will be asked to set a username/password.
  4. Sign in to the wiki with your PB Works username and password.

 

 

 

Workshop 1  Thinkfinity Resources for Teaching Science and Math

Monday, July 27,  1:00 - 3:30 

Description

Participants will receive a brief introduction to the Thinkfinity online resources followed by a brief interactive tutorial using the site. The main emphasis of the workshop will be an inquiry based activity in which participants will work in grade level groups to explore the science resources.  Each group will create an integrated lesson plan that uses a Thinkfinity resource to engage students on the first day of class.  This workshop is designed to be interactive and collaborative.  Participants will use a wiki site to share their ideas with the group online.  A computer with wireless access is required. 

 

Workshop 2  Teaching Science Using Web 2.0 Tools

Tuesday, July 28,  9:00 - 11:30

Description

Participants will receive a brief introduction to a variety of free Web 2.0 resources freely available on the web. The main emphasis of the workshop will be an inquiry based activity in which participants will work in grade level groups to explore and discuss the uses of various Web 2.0 tools for teaching.  Each group will create a lesson plan that uses one tool to engage students in learning science.  This workshop is designed to be interactive and collaborative.  Participants will use a wiki site to share their ideas with the group online.  A computer with wireless access is required.

 

Workshop 3  Creating Engaging and Interactive Science Activities Using Internet Resources

Tuesday, July 28,  1:00 - 3:30

Description

Participants will receive a brief introduction to a variety of science learning sites freely available on the web. The main emphasis of the workshop will be an inquiry based activity in which participants will work in grade level groups to explore and discuss the uses of these interactive sites for teaching.  Each group will create a lesson plan that integrates use of the site to engage students in learning science.  This workshop is designed to be interactive and collaborative.  Participants will use a wiki site to share their ideas with the group online.  A computer with wireless access is required.
